Summer courses in France

Summer courses held  in Lagrasse, officially one of the 100 most beautiful villages, just 40 minutes south east of Carcassonne in the South of France.

Lagrasse Village

Lagrasse Village

Cormac’s three story medieval town house, set in the heart of the village, in ancient ramparts of Lagrasse, Corbieres plays host to a summer series of workshops each year.

Beautiful views, inspirational surroundings, local wine, cuisine and the flow of the Orbieu river sets the scene for an unrivaled break, with a creative experience. When you go home you will have your own personalised silver creations to remind you always of a trip to remember.

As in Dublin, the workshops are suitable for those starting from scratch or experienced, as each student has projects to suit their own interest, where possible!

Students can work in silver and fine silver clay (PMC3) together with enamels and setting -precious stones, try some cloisonné enamel on silver clay, all included in the fee. If you wish to work in gold, no problem - talk to me and we will explore the options!

Sample course Itinerary

Everybody meets at Cormac's townhouse  on the first weekend at 7.00pm before setting off to explore the local cuisine and enjoy new wines of the canton!

Each morning we meet at 9.00 at the boulangerie to buy breakfast, and take it across road for coffee! Work starts at 9.30am - 12.30pm with a break for lunch before returning to the workshop at 2.30pm -5.00pm. The two hou lunch break will allow you to have lunch and/or a swim under the trees by river in Lagrasse or the glacial rock pools at Ribaute!

Workshop Day

Introduction to the tools in the workshop, there use and hearing what you would like to make and if it’s possible! Perhaps a pendant, earrings or a ring by recycling scrap silver. This gives you confidence to use the tools and torch in the workshop safely.

Make a Bracelet, with long silver wire links to your own design, which is a great way to improve your soldering skills.

Make a piece with Precious Metal Clay to be fired the in the eco friendly electric kiln at 700C - uses 80% less electricity than a hair drier! Try some enamel to give colors on the PMC.

Final Day

The final day, take the ultimate challenge and create your masterpiece using all the skills you have now mastered!

The day will end with a class exhibition and photographing of every ones work. The photographs will be taken throughout the workshop as you are creating and sent to you at the end of the course.
